License and format (translations?)
Hello,
As I said on this other topic : https://phylomon.forumotion.net/t127-vector-files-for-english-russian-translation I'm french and I'd like to do french translations of phylo cards.
But somehting bugs me, it is said that the cards are under the license CC-BY-NC-ND which forbids modifications, if I understand correctly that means that translations are forbidden? Is that on purpose?
The other problem is that I can't seem to find any sources for the cards, meaning a format where informations can easily be extracted (to translate the text or to adapt the card to a different theme for instance). Are there sources available? (then again, maybe sources are not available to avoid modifications, but that seems kind of strange to me for an educational project)
I saw that you did some special deck for some museums, does that mean you have the card informations in some handful format, or did you do the work of adapting cards to the new theme by hand?
Thanks for this wonderful project!
Last remark, maybe a link to the forum could be added on the mainsite, next to the blog link? That would mean more people reading/writing here.

Re: License and format (translations?)
Thanks for writing, and sorry for the long delay in responding. The ND was mainly to ensure that the image doesn't get pulled out of the card and used for other things. The data for the cards is inputed via data entry in a wordpress theme. In theory, that means that if I can make that database accessible (I'll have to look into that), then one should be able to pull all data. As an aside, I've always wondered what would happen if you allow google to translate the cards to your preferred language (especially since most of the info is done in simple phrasings).
Anyway, if any one has experience pulling data from a wordpress database (or making it accessible in some kind of format), keep writing in this thread and we'll see if there's a way forward.
cheers

FYI, some very basic API for the card data is available now. This should allow one to pull out text for all cards on the site. See http://phylogame.org/2013/06/24/some-code-for-card-apis/
